About Healing Prayer
I have seen hundreds healed by God in answer to prayers for healing. The first time I was led to pray for the healing of another person, I was given the following verse to claim as a promise...
John 14:13-14, “And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.[KJV] ”
Later, after studying the 34 healings and the 25 deliverances Jesus performed, the question arose if Jesus commissioned all of us to pray for the healing and deliverances of others? Jesus repeatedly commands His apostles and disciples to proclaim the kingdom, cast out demons, raise the dead and heal the sick. Some questioned if that great commission was given to "ordinary" Christians?
I believe the answer is found at the end of Mark. The apostles were hiding in an attic and had not believed the reports that he had risen. Jesus upbraided them for their lack of faith and stubbornness. He then described how to recognize those who believe, saying that these signs will accompany those who believe:
Mark 16:17-18 “ And these signs will accompany those who believe: by using my name they will cast out demons; …; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover [NRSV]
I have seen many hundreds healed emotionally, physically and, in one case, I believe prayer reanimated a man from death. For the interested, there is even a database at the University of Indiana of medically verified healings.
Sometimes His response doesn’t look even a bit like what I or the person being prayed for was expecting, but I have come to believe there has always been an answer, even if I didn't seem to see anything happen at all. I have found that sometimes my prayers were removing a block to an expected healing that would occur later.
The Lord owns my life, there are few moments when His praises are not on my lips.
